FAKE NEWS - THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!

This will sadly likely be an ongoing thing for CNN for a little while. Even if Trump loses in two years. Hell, that might make it worse.

Bullock is running for MT Senator in 2020 per Tester:
https://twitter.com/ChazNuttycombe/status/1070187588361879552

I assume it'll still be a very uphill battle against Daines, but this probably gives Dems a nonzero chance.

I was looking through the comments and there isn't any confirmation from Bullock or anything like that and people can't tell if Tester was just being joking/hopeful or not.

But hell yes please do it Bullock. It'd be a tough fight against Daines, but Bullock won the governorship by +4 in a year that Trump won Montana +20. They'd at least have a chance with Bullock.

I agree gerrymandering is terrible, but this election overall wasn't exactly evidence for that. My gut reaction, after the election, was "jeez think how many more seats the democrats would've got if not for gerrymandering. However, if you look at the total house popular vote Democrats got 53.4% of the vote while Republicans got 44.9% of the vote (3rd party got 1.7%).

53.4% of the seats in the house would be 233 seats (rounded up).
44.9% of the seats in the house would be 196 (rounded up).
1.7% of the seats in the house would be 8 seats (again, rounded up so we don't have 0.2 of a person)

Actual numbers were 235 to 200. So honestly the national popular vote was a very good reflection of representation in the senate. Except for third parties, RIP all you crazy people intent on wasting your vote one way or another.

(This isn't an argument against the WI gerrymander being bad at the state level, but this was something I looked into a couple of weeks ago and just forgot to post. The gerrymander post just made me think of it!)

One of those has rationale within the league and the strategy of the game (I will play an easier opponent in the playoffs and it'll be easier for me to win). One of them is just bribery.

I'm not saying you should do the hypothetical, but it isn't outright subverting the integrity of the league like your situation is.

Very true, I was more referencing how she always takes attacks head on rather than ignoring them or trying to be polite. It was something that always made me roll my eyes at Trump, but now that I see her doing it to Lindsay Graham and Mike Huckabee I'm like "oh ok I get the appeal in this".

Her attacks are more substantive, sure, but her "you haven't governed anything in over ten years" is some good snark that isn't really about the issue she was debating.

(Also my understanding is that the $32 trillion MFA number is a very optimistic number for Bernie's MFA plan taking his unrealistic assumptions at face value; the real cost would likely be much higher. Of course, iirc his plan was also extremely generous as far as care provided goes, so if you scaled that back maybe you could get that kind of number?)

It was wrong for a couple reasons, yes. It was also 17 years vs the 10 she was suggesting. I'm just excited about the dunking in the two specific tweets posted there.

Yeah, it would bump Corrik out in favor of Future Playoff Champs, so it definitely affects playoffs much more than just my individual placement in the brackets. It would be better strategy, actually, to dive and stop Corrik from getting in if he was truly beasting at the end, but I don't think I'd do it just because it seems kinda like a shitty thing to do. I was just curious what everyone else's thoughts were.

(I'm not facing Corrik first round anyway win or lose so this is a total hypothetical)

I'm not going to do it, but what are the ethics of throwing a game to face an easier playoff opponent if it affects other teams?

For example, say Corrik was substantially better than who I would face instead. He came on late and had all the best late season pick ups and was a monster. But if I benched my last three players against the guy who could leapfrog him into the playoffs, it would mean Corrik would miss out on the playoffs entirely and I wouldn't have to face him first round? Dick move but understandable or dick move and I'm a horrendous human being?

Again, I'm not doing it, it was just a thought I had when looking at matchups this week.

More evidence that Ohio is lost and we should focus on different targets. Here are the popular vote margins from this year from all cumulative house races in "swing" states Trump won. These are pulled from Wikipedia "Unites States House of Representatives elections in ______, 2018"

Pennsylvania: D +9.91
Wisconsin: D +7.69
Michigan: D +7.68
Iowa: D +3.98
Arizona: D +1.06
North Carolina: R +2.04
Texas: R +3.51
Georgia: R +4.54
Montana: R +4.63
Florida: R +5.25
Ohio: R +5.27

Democrats only need to win up to Michigan (where they had a +7.68 advantage in house popular vote) to get presidency back. Iowa and Arizona look good for them too, and even North Carolina, Texas (!!!), and Georgia/Montana (!!!!) were all under 5.

But in this wave year, you had Florida and Ohio at the absolute bottom of all these states that could possibly flip. We can complain about Ohio being gerrymandered all we want, but we're losing by more than five points in the house popular vote, not even considering the governor race we lost by a similar margin. Florida you could make an argument for because the senate/governors races were both extremely close and Clinton did much better in Florida in 2016 than she did in Ohio. I would not give up on Florida yet because that is still within reach for the right candidate.

Ohio, however, looks to be going the way of Missouri without any trends that are encouraging to the democrats (other than Sherrod Brown who is looking more and more like a miracle Jon Tester sort of senator).

Dems should poor a ton of money into Michigan/Wisconsin/Pennsylvania (and ideally pick a candidate that does well in those states). Iowa and Arizona obviously are really high priority as well, and then maybe NC too. GA/TX/MT can all be lower tier targets with an eye on future growth. Florida is fine to focus on as well, but I really think there are like five or six other states that would flip before it.

Ohio can be abandoned for now imho.

(Silver points out, though notes it isn't necessarilly evidence, that Bladen County is the only county in the district where Rs held their ground compared to 2016, whereas in the others you see big shifts towards Dems. Also notes that it's also unclear that even if something did happen it's uncertain it'd swing the race, though he still says this whole situation is weird enough to call for AP and others to uncall the race.)

This is another crucial point. All the weirdness is localized in one county, and it isn't clear that even *if* something untoward happened with the absentee ballots that it would actually matter in terms of who won.

Again, there is no proof of anything yet, but there is at least enough circumstantial evidence to make the non-partisan board of elections not certify the race. BUT even if they did find something, I cannot say for sure the swing would be anything more than 100-200 votes, which isn't enough to do anything in this race. Worth looking into though, absolutely.

Harris actually ousted a fairly popular republican incumbent by a thin margin in what was a pretty big surprise. There were weird absentee votes in that race, too.

http://www.wfae.org/post/harris-pittenger-race-unusual-bladen-county-absentee-mail-votes-poured-harris#stream/0

Harris won 96 percent of the 456 absentee-by-mail votes in Bladen, but won only 62 percent of all other votes in the county, according to state Board of Elections records.

Again, that is not impossible...but 96 percent are crazy numbers and a pattern is starting to establish now in Bladen.

Speaking of Republicans potentially behaving badly:

http://amp.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/election/article222363510.html

The fast facts:

One of the Commissioners presented presented evidence of election fraud in the NC-9 house race to the Board of Elections. The evidence was reviewed in a closed session.

The Board unanimously voted to not certify the results of the election.

This apparently has something to do with wild irregularities regarding Bladen Countys handling of absentee votes.

The Board of Elections, whose future is in very serious doubt, is having a teleconference today to discuss and possibly vote again on the matter. Its pretty unclear what's going to happen from here.

Update on this story - it seems there was systematic tampering with the absentee ballots in Bladen County (and possibly also Robeson).

If there is not some way to figure out how many votes that was and which ones were fradulent to produce a more accurate count they may be forced to toss this election out entirely and re run it.

The same issue apparently happened in the Republican primary, so I would think that (some) republicans would want this looked into as well.

Also the board of elections that voted to unanimously not certify was 4 democrats, 1 independent, and 4 republicans.

After the way he's repeatedly tried to piss all over a, tenuous at best, justice system, I hope they crush him. Nevermind all the other shit he's done.

I do worry about the fall out when the 30ish percent that still somehow support him get shown he's a massive fucking crook conclusively though.

One of the most astute things Trump ever said (that I stupidly did not believe at the time) was "I could shoot someone in the middle of the street and I wouldn't lose any votes" (paraphrasing here, but close to that).

You may remember her from such greatest hits as "I was late because I couldn't find a Lyft or Uber with a non-Muslim driver" that got her permanently banned from both of those services. That's the one story I specifically remember her from, at least!

Didn't corsi straight up admit to lying to the feds on tv yesterday too?

The weirdest part of that whole interview:

In July, I was on vacation with my wife in Italy, the 25th anniversary of the family, Corsi explained when asked whether he was the source of Stones knowledge of the leak. I think flying over I figured out that Assange had Podestas emails. I told Roger in this email and subsequently that I thought it was Podestas emails. This was my conclusion, my supposition. It did not come from Assange and it didnt connect back to Assange. So theres no link from me to Assange. The link is from me figuring this out and telling Roger. If I was the source, it was because Roger believe me figuring it out, not because I had a source.

But how did Corsi figure out that WikiLeaks possessed and was planning to release the hacked emails of John Podesta, Clintons campaign manager? Well, he just kind of did, and, for some reason, Muellers team did not find this defense to be satisfactory. They didnt believe it, Corsi said when asked how the special counsels office responded to his story about Italy. Jeannie Rhee, one of the prosecutors, said, Dr. Corsi, you are asking us to believe, on an extended international flight with your wife for your anniversary, you had divine intervention? God inspired your mind and told you Assange has Podestas emails and theyre going to be dumped in October and dumped in a serial fashion? Is that what youre saying? I said, Yes, Ms. Rhee, thats about what Im saying.'

While CNN doesnt do great in the United States based on ratings, outside of the U.S. they have very little competition. Throughout the world, CNN has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair....

Starting a nationalized propaganda network to win over the hearts of minds of people not in that country definitely sounds like a good idea and not the insane ramblings of a third-world tyrant.

There is no benefit to alternating.

You want to pick one and stick with it, and then do the opposite on your second playthrough.

I would've been fine if there was something in between them and the rest of the game in terms of difficulty. I didn't die once anywhere else while playing, but it took me 2 HOURS to beat Undyne and like another hour or so to beat Sans. There is nothing else anywhere close to them in terms of difficulty or design, and its weird they made the rest of the fights so dull, particularly in True Genocide where there was a lot of space for interesting fights.

Also if you didn't feel like a monster for killing Toriel or Papyrus, there was nothing that was going to make you feel like a monster

There are two bosses on that route that are horrendous and about 100x harder than anything else in the game. The story is also not as interesting as the true pacifist over even neutral ending, imo. If you loved the story so far though there is a little more lore here you can learn so it is up to you if it is worth it or not.

Also, a retrospective on 538's models:

538 Projection:

House: D+39
Senate: R+1 (rounded from 0.5)
Governor: D+8

Reality:

House: D+39 (with CA-21 still outstanding. Narrow R lead, but as provisionals have been coming in the Democrat has cut the lead. But they aren't going to continue counting this week so boo. Would be a D gain if the Democrat wins)
Senate: R+2
Governor: D+7

So basically, 538's model was a Florida away from being perfect. (And possibly even underestimating the House slightly if CA-21 goes blue to bring the number to 40 pickups.)

That house prediction is bonkers. Like, absolutely outstanding. This was their first year doing it so I thought they'd need some time perfecting it. It is crazy how perfect they were on just about everything.

I have not been following this story closely at all - is there evidence Wohl is connection outside of Avenatti's accusation? I tried to google it and couldn't find anything but since this is a developing story all the news articles I found on the first couple pages are about things that happened in the past day.
